Guns are Better than Anything Else
you know how people were so upset about how politicians who knew nothing about the internet were trying to legislate online censorship laws?
Yeah that’s basically how I feel all the time about guns.
I know a lot about guns. I don’t want to, I was just raised that way - I was raised in the shooting range my parents owned. I soaked up everything as my mom trained police officers and taught women armed-defense. I’ve never once played ball. I have many times stripped, cleaned and reassembled pistols in the dark. Firearm safety was instilled so deeply I still can’t point a water pistol at a living creature (our family chose target shooting, skeet, trap, over hunting).
Despite and nevertheless, whatever the etiology, the symptoms are unacceptable. If we can’t treat the problem, we must take action to prevent accidental or intentional firearm injury (from accidental discharge, to ignorant gun owners, to gun acquisitions by the temporary homicidal).
The second amendment is moot to me because, to my view, the document is too fundamentally flawed - too rooted in someone else’s material history.
Reality has a an exploit and it needs a patch. If my voice carried any weight, I’d consider all pull requests before modifying the code. But the code must change.
